For President Elect, Amy Murrell Taylor Amy Murrell Taylor is the T. Marshall Hahn Jr. Professor of History at the University of Kentucky, and the author Embattled Freedom: Journeys through the Civil War’s Slave Refugee Camps. A member of the SCWH since 2008, Taylor is completing a term on the society’s Executive Council and has also served on the Outreach Committee and as Chair of the 2021 Program Committee.
For Executive Council James Broomall James J. Broomall is an associate professor of history at Shepherd University and the director of the George Tyler Moore Center for the Study of the Civil War. He is a cultural historian of the Civil War era and an active public historian. Dr. Broomall first presented at the Society of Civil War Historians in 2008 as a graduate student. He has since served as a moderator and commentator for panel sessions, participated in panels on professional development, and organized a roundtable on material culture during the Civil War era.
Frances Clarke Frances M. Clarke, an Associate Professor at the University of Sydney, Australia, has spent her career writing and teaching about the US Civil War and Reconstruction. Her interests include the social, cultural, legal, and political history of this period, wartime gender relations, war trauma and memory, and, most recently, the history and consequences of underage enlistment. Frances is a long-time member of the Society of Civil War Historians. She is a regular attendee at the SCWH conference. She has acted as a book reviewer for the Journal of the Civil War Era and served as a committee member for the Tom Watson Brown Award.
Susannah Ural Susannah J. Ural is The Frank & Virginia Williams Professor for Abraham Lincoln and Civil War Studies at Mississippi State University, where she also directs the Williams Collection of Lincolniana. Ural’s publications and digital projects reflect her interest in the socio-military history of the Civil War and Reconstruction eras. An SCWH member since the early 2000s, Ural has contributed to the organization through service on the program committee, chairing the nominations committee in 2020, and, most recently, serving on the Tom Watson Brown Book Award Committee.
Timothy Williams Tim Williams is an associate professor of history at the University of Oregon. He specializes in the intellectual and cultural history of the Civil War era, particularly the American South. He has been an active member of SCWH, including serving as program chair for the society’s 2024 biennial meeting. |
